Autoclaves for the containers

The nuclear industry is a specific branch of industry as its safety proceeding requirements are particularly strict.

Uranium hexafluoride is a radioactive and highly toxic material, so any device designed for filling and emptying of the transport containers with liquid (molten) uranium hexafluoride should provide its localization within the device, as uranium hexafluoride may be released from the transport container in case of its accidental destruction.

As it follows from this, the requierments for the durability, hermetical sealing and reliability of such devices are especially high.

The devices are the autoclave for the 30B container (photo 1), and autoclave for 48F container and its modifications (photo 2):

• provide the possibility of uranium hexafluoride melting in the transport container placed inside the autoclave at 110°C;
  
• provide the possibility of transport containers filling with liquid uranium hexafluoride and their emptying;
  
• provide the possibility of transport containers cooling up to safe temperature (45°C);
  
• provide the possibility of transport container rotation about its axis by 120-180°C inside the autoclave for the purpose of a representative sampling;
  
• provide the 12°C slope of the transport 48F container and its modifications for the purpose of complete uranium hexafluoride off;
  
• provide the complete isolation of the autoclave's working volume with the container inside from the ambient space during the technology procedure;
  
• provide the uranium hexafluoride localization inside the autoclave at the excess pressure up to 7 kg/cm² in case of an accidental leakage of UF6 from the container;
  
• the bayonet bolt compression design ensure the reliable hermetical sealing and need.no gas supercharging compression;
  
• the autoclave provides heating and cooling of the transport containers by air;
• equipped with all necessary signalling and automation faclities for automatical remote functioning;
  
• convenient for maintenance and operating.

The autoclaves of the proposed design versions are protected by the Russian Federation Patent № 2035216, riority 06.03.92, published 20.05.95.
